Earworm #21

My head was full of words to write not songs to sing yesterday. I hope this funky beat makes up for missing that post.

This is a very fun, catchy tune I was introduced to a few years ago by one of my favorite people in the world. He was appalled I did not know it.

I hope you do the D.A.N.C.E while listening! Enjoy!

Earworm #20

The big 2 - 0 is a two parter. So on my walk to the bus/lightrail/work this morning I had some lyrics in my head that went like this, "run, run...run......run..........." You can imagine how hard it was to look this song up on Google with only one word repeated four times. Each time I tried to get the tune and the rest of the lyrics in my head, I kept shifting into another song. It was a frustrating walk. I knew one song was more alternative rock and the other was classic rock but that was as far as I got. Anyways, long story short, I figured it out! Please do not judge the fact that I blended these two songs together - I really do not know how I did it. The first video is the song I kept singing, the second is the song with the run lyrics. Enjoy!

Earworm #19

Remember The O.C.? This song was on the second soundtrack they released from the show - yes, I own it. I have been thinking of choreographing a piece to this song. I just have the dynamic beat going in circles in my head. I had the hardest time thinking of the name, artist, or lyrics and I thought it had something to do with the sky or autumn - which was wrong. Anyways, I was right about it being on The O.C. back in the day. So here it is. Enjoy!

Earworm #17

This one started as soon as I woke up this morning. I think it comes on the Kings of Leon Pandora radio station regularly while I am at work. I realized while watching the music video I did not know piano was a primary instrument at the beginning of the song. I thought the whole song sounded like it does in the end, a little more heavy hitting ... so that was a surprise. Apparently I need to pay more attention to Pandora at work. Enjoy!

Earworm #16

I first heard this song in the movie Happy Feet 2 ... now, I was not a big fan of the movie, but I thought the soundtrack was stellar. This song is one of my favorites on the soundtrack. I woke up this morning singing it with the image of little penguins tapping along to it. Well, to my surprise the music video seems to be inspired by the music. It is such a fun video with this catchy song. Enjoy!

Earworm #15

Well, per usual, I have just two lines of a song cycling through in my head, and I have no idea where it came from. It goes a little something like this, "Oh oh oh oh, oh oh oh oh to my stereo / Oh oh oh oh to sing along to my stereo." I hope this catchy chorus gets stuck in your head too! Enjoy!

Earworm #14

I promised I would share any and all earworms no matter how embarrassing they were ... well here is the first of what I am sure is many to come...

This morning after I dragged myself from my comfy bed to the living room for my morning workout I sprawled on the floor for about ten minutes trying to convince myself to stand up and actually workout. As I was there, I realized I had this old school pop song going around my head. I have no idea where it came from and I find it somewhat embarrassing that THIS is the song stuck in my head at 5:15 in the morning. Enjoy!

Earworm #12

Today's earworm is definitely connected to Saturday Night Live's seasons finale hosted by Mick Jagger. This song played at the end of the show as they bid farewell to Kristen Wiig. I thought it was a rather bittersweet ending to the show. I am totally bummed she is leaving... but it is that transitional time of year. And with that in mind, enjoy a little Rolling Stones for your Monday.

Earworm #11

Today I have a bit of a medley stuck in my head. It is not a real medley by this group, I've just blended some songs together unintentionally. I really enjoy music by Mumford and Sons, however, sometimes I don't know what song is what. I love it all, but it blends. So today's earworm is actually three songs by Mumford and Sons. Enjoy!

Earworm #10

I've reached the double digits! And blogged consistently, I am very proud of myself. I wish I had a song stuck in my head that would represent this milestone better, but I don't...womp, womp...

I have one line stuck in my head over and over, "Life of the party..." which makes it sound like a much more upbeat song than it is. I used to use this song in yoga all the time because I think it is a wonderfully mellow song and great for the end of the practice when the pace slows down. However, it is a terribly depressing break-up  song. Oh, well. It is good for a lazy Saturday morning. Enjoy.

Earworm #9

Based on today's earworm, I must be a little homesick for the New England area. I just have the chorus of, "I think I'll go to Boston..." going through my head over and over again. I have a lot of students who dream of going to Boston, which I find quite interesting having spent many times there. But to those in the opposite corner of the country it is a glamorous destination. Enjoy.

Earworm #8

Well, I have been documenting earworms for about a week now and this is the second Zumba song I have had stuck in my head. I did not realize how often I had those songs bopping around in my head. They are catchy tunes, and if you have never tried Zumba I highly recommend it! And if you have tried it and you didn't like it, try it with a different instructor. I think having these Zumba songs stuck in my head add a little extra pep in my step. I hope you follow along with the dance in this video for a mini workout in the middle of your day! Enjoy!

Earworm #7

I apologize for skipping a post yesterday but I didn't have a song stuck in my head. Most likely because my inner monologue was running all day long (it was a day of ups and downs to say the least). But now that has subsided, I am back to my daily earworm!

Great song today to come out of the roller-coaster of yesterday. I saw this performed live at the NASPA opening ceremony this March - it was great. Just him and his piano singing. Sometimes, it's the simple things which is something we should all think about. Enjoy.

Eaworm # 6

A few weeks ago, I went to see the touring Broadway show American Idiot. If you ever get a chance to see it, I highly recommend it. My favorite part was how the dance and music meshed together. The movement was raw and heavy-hitting punk, just like the music. There seems to be a trend of taking songs already in existence and working them into a Broadway show; it is very intriguing to me. Green Day's songs take me back to, well, grade school through the present. I remember seeing them performed in variety shows in school and then, more recently, I have rocked out to them on Rock Band (I play the drums.) They are a music group who have really been able to define the greater part of our generation (who didn't sing/play/hear "Good Riddance (Time Of my Life)" at some point during their high school graduation??) Today, one of their songs is stuck in my head. Actually, it is just one line, "it's not over til your underground" over and over and over again. Enjoy!

Earworm #5

I am a certified Zumba instructor and part of the Zumba Instructor Network (ZIN). I get a DVD and CD monthly of new music and new choreography because I am a part of ZIN - it's pretty great! I am not currently teaching, but I Zumba on a regular basis as part of my morning workout. It is a fun way to start the day, however the songs get stuck in my head.  So today's earworm is brought to you by Zumbe!  I hope you dance along with it!

Earworm #4

Today's earworm joined me on my morning hike. It is a horrible hiking song, but probably one of my favorite songs from the 90's. I couldn't find a music video for this one, but that's ok. I think this is a song that needs no visual because everyone has their own nostalgic moment with it. Enjoy!

Earworm #3 (ish)

So, I have had this tune stuck in my head all day. It goes like this: "dadada dah da duh, dadada dah da duh, dadada dah da duh, dadada dah da duh, dadada dah da duh" ... over and over and over again and I have no idea what it is. I tried Google-ing some lyrics I thought might be it like: "I'll never stay awake," "I just can't get enough," and "I just won't go away." I got nothing. I thought it might be Green Day or some 90's rock so I listened to different tunes I thought might be it, nope! No idea what this one is. So, I am sorry I do not have an actual song for you to enjoy today BUT if you have any idea what song matches, "dadada dah da duh ...." I would greatly appreciate your input!

Thanks for reading :-)

Earworm #2

Today's earworm is brought to you by the 80's. It reminds me of traveling back to college after my first winter break home in 2006. I realize there is a 20 year difference there, but the 80's make for great road trip songs. Enjoy!

Earworm #1

Today's song suits the start of this blog just fine. I have not heard this song in years, but it sneaked into my head somehow. It is the kind of tune that makes you feel like dancing - not formal dancing, more of a jumping and flailing about dancing. Enjoy!

Earworm #1: "Ease on Down the Road" from The Wiz

What's an Earworm??

I have had some crazy earworms lately which inspired me to start this blog where I can share and track these random earworms.

I think it is a funny sounding word, and the visual it produces in my head is quite humorous.

Do you even know what I am talking about? Earworms? Have you heard of them before?

I first learned about earworms under the cap of a Snapple lemon iced tea (where all of us have learned oh so much). It read:

#355 A tune that gets stuck in your head is called an earworm.

Well, recently I have noticed on my daily walks to work I have the oddest assortment of music  banging around up there; show tunes, 80's power ballads, 90's pop, Christmas music, etc. Whenever I have an idea or thought stuck in my head I always like express it someway, somehow. So, that is what I am doing here. And I promise, no matter how embarrassing, I will share my daily earworm!

Enjoy!
